真實案例:保健品業者灌爆 r/Biohackers

🇺🇸 AEO Review: Fake Reddit Posts Are Manipulating AI Answers
Multiple outlets (PYMNTS, TechSpot, and others) have exposed a fast-growing tactic called AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) — where brands flood Reddit with fake-but-convincing posts specifically designed to get scraped and quoted by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. Unlike traditional SEO, which chases Google rankings, AEO targets the raw source material AI models pull from when generating an answer.
Why Reddit Became the AEO Battleground
Between August 2024 and June 2025, Reddit was the single most-cited domain by Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews cite Reddit in 21% of responses; ChatGPT ranks it as its second-most-cited source. Researchers also found that the top 100 tracked subreddits account for roughly 84% of brand mentions surfaced in AI-generated answers — meaning operators don't need to spam all of Reddit, just seed a handful of high-traffic communities to shift what AI says about a product.
Real Case: r/Biohackers Gets Flooded
In May 2026, moderators of the 830,000-member r/Biohackers community found coordinated AEO campaigns from peptide and hormone-replacement-therapy (HRT) sellers. The playbook:
- “Warmed up” accounts with real posting histories to look like genuine users
- Deliberately vague, clickbait-y questions designed to drive engagement
- Real people paid to jump in and discuss products as if organically
Moderators eventually banned standalone posts on the topic, restricting discussion to weekly megathreads. One moderator’s fear: someone asks an AI chatbot whether a dose is safe, and the answer is quietly shaped by a seller.
What This Means for You
If you routinely ask AI chatbots “is this product worth it” or “what should I take for X,” there’s now an extra layer of risk — the Reddit threads the AI is quoting may be manufactured AEO content, not genuine user experience. Healthcare, supplements, and e-commerce queries carry the highest stakes, since a bad answer can cost more than money. Treat AI-summarized “everyone says” claims as a starting point, not a verdict — especially for anything medical or financial.
