The Market Reality Behind the Ban

The numbers explain the urgency. Of roughly 15,000 humanoid robots shipped globally in 2025, Unitree and AGIBOT - China's two largest players - each shipped over 5,000 units, while Tesla and Figure AI combined shipped a few hundred at most. Analysts put China's global market share at around 85%. That's the gap Elon Musk's "one million Optimus units a year" claim has to close, and there's no sign of high-volume production yet.

The Ripple Effect: Even Nvidia Is Exposed

Notably, Nvidia's own humanoid robot reference design, unveiled earlier this year, uses Unitree's chassis. That means the ban's impact extends beyond robot brands themselves - upstream chip and reference-architecture partners now have to reassess their supply relationships too.

Research institutions evaluating new humanoid or quadruped purchases will find new Chinese models off the compliant procurement list immediately
Already-deployed units should get a network access and security audit - "not banned" doesn't mean "no risk"
