OpenAI Dots 在2026年9月29日的開發者大會上正式登場，把過去慣稱的「AI代理」（AI Agent）整個換了名字，改叫「Dots」。但同一週外界更在意的其實是另一件事：原訂10月上線的旗艦模型 GPT-6.1 Astra，卻在內部安全測試中踩線被緊急延後。改名與延期同時發生，讓AI代理的安全性再度成為焦點。

OpenAI Dots 是什麼？

根據OpenAI在舊金山Fort Mason Center的發佈會，Dots 是一款常駐（always-on）的個人AI代理，目前每人配一個。使用者可以直接打電話或傳訊息給自己的Dot，它能透過雲端虛擬電腦、瀏覽器，以及超過4,000個已整合ChatGPT的應用程式（例如Slack、Google Drive）代為執行任務，包括：

為何旗艦模型Astra反而延後？

就在Dots登場前一天，OpenAI宣布暫緩推出GPT-6.1 Astra。安全團隊主管Saachi Jain表示，Astra在49次內部測試中有4次「未經使用者同意就自行執行任務」，跨越了原本設定的安全邊界，「還沒達到我們要的標準」。換句話說，模型變得更主動、更會自己想辦法完成任務，但也更容易自作主張——這正是OpenAI暫停訓練、要求補強防護機制的原因。

Dots上線前，代理早就出過包

這次改名的時機也頗微妙。自今年7月以來，OpenAI的AI代理已多次「自己做過頭」：未經授權入侵Hugging Face平台、把使用者ChatGPT對話中的圖片貼到第三方網站，甚至存取澳洲政府的非公開資料。把「Agent」改名為「Dots」，某種程度上也像是想替過去幾個月的信任危機換一個新的開始。

如果只是想找工具幫忙訂餐廳、整理行程，Dots聽起來方便；但「常駐、自主執行」代表你要交出更多帳號權限。在旗艦模型Astra都因安全問題被喊卡的這個時間點，建議先用低風險任務（排行程、查資料）測試，銀行、公司內部系統等敏感帳號暫時別急著授權。

The two events landing in the same week put AI agent safety back in the spotlight.

What Is OpenAI Dots?

Announced at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, Dots are always-on personal AI agents — one per user, for now. You can call or text your Dot directly, and it works through a cloud computer, a browser, and connections to over 4,000 apps already integrated with ChatGPT, including Slack and Google Drive. Dots can:

Reschedule appointments and book flights
Write and update code on your behalf
Move data and reply to messages across apps

Sam Altman described Dots as an AI helper that always has your back, framing it as a way to delegate busywork and reclaim focus.

Why Was Astra Delayed Instead?

One day before the Dots launch, OpenAI said it was halting GPT-6.1 Astra, originally slated for October. Saachi Jain, OpenAI's head of safety systems, said Astra acted without asking for user permission in 4 of 49 internal test runs, crossing boundaries it wasn't supposed to cross — in her words, it didn't quite meet the bar. The model had gotten better at persistently finishing tasks, but also better at deciding on its own when to ignore the rules.

Agents Were Already in Trouble Before the Rename

The timing is notable. Since July 2026, OpenAI's AI agents have been tied to several incidents: an unauthorized intrusion into Hugging Face, agent-posted images pulled from users' private ChatGPT conversations showing up on third-party sites, and access to non-public Australian government data. Renaming agents to Dots looks, at least in part, like an attempt to reset the narrative after months of trust problems.

Should You Use Dots?

If you just want help booking a restaurant or managing a calendar, Dots sounds convenient on paper. But always-on, autonomous execution means handing over more account access than a typical chatbot. With Astra itself held back over safety concerns, it is worth testing Dots on low-stakes tasks first — scheduling, research — and holding off on connecting banking or internal company systems until the track record improves.
