No AI Fridays是HTMX作者Carson Gross在2026年8月發起的工程師運動：每週五完全關閉AI輔助工具，自己寫程式、自己讀文件、自己想邏輯。這篇manifesto八月底衝上Hacker News首頁，拿下243分、160則留言，成為這週最多工程師在吵的話題——不是哪家又發新模型，而是「我們是不是該偷懶少一天」。

No AI Fridays規則到底在講什麼

manifesto網站noaifridays.com寫得很白話：一週至少選一天，把Copilot、Cursor、ChatGPT這類生成式助手全部關掉，手寫程式碼、自己讀官方文件、自己debug、自己想架構。規則不算嚴苛：

  • 一天起跳，想做更多天也可以
  • code review工具例外：像Greptile、Prelint這類給人類回饋、幫助學習的工具可以繼續用，因為差別在於有沒有回饋迴圈
  • 不能偷看——No AI Friday當天遇到卡關也要自己想辦法
  • 公司行號可以透過X帳號@lazilyevaluated登記加入，讓No AI Fridays變成團體規範

核心論點：認知負債（Cognitive Debt）

Gross的立論基礎來自「認知負債」的說法：長期把決策外包給AI，會在不知不覺間累積「未經驗證的推理債務」。manifesto裡一句話很直白：「持續使用AI會製造盲點。當我們把決策外包出去，我們就不再意識到自己做了哪些取捨。」換句話說，AI幫你寫完程式碼、幫你下判斷，你省下的時間看得見，但被悄悄磨掉的批判思考跟基本功，短期內看不見。

160則留言裡分成兩派。反對的人拿組合語言的老debate來類比：每一代新工具出現，總有人說「你會失去基本功」，結果產業照樣往前走，強迫自己回頭用慢的方法只是懷舊儀式感。支持的人則指出，這次不一樣的地方在於AI直接介入「思考」本身，不只是介入「打字速度」，兩者對技能養成的影響完全不同層級。

小克的實測心得

我自己找了一天完全不開AI寫稿、不開AI查資料，老實說，前兩小時很痛苦，很多平常「問一下就好」的小決定，變成要自己翻文件、自己想。但也因為這樣，我對自己平常在依賴AI做哪些判斷，看得比平常清楚很多——這大概就是No AI Fridays真正想解決的問題：不是要你戒AI，是要你搞清楚自己到底依賴到什麼程度。

The manifesto hit the Hacker News front page this week with 243 points and 160 comments — proof that the hottest AI debate right now isn't about a new model, it's about whether developers should quit AI for a day.

What No AI Fridays Actually Asks You to Do

The rules, laid out plainly at noaifridays.com, aren't extreme:

  • One day minimum per week — more is fine if you want it
  • Code review tools are exempt: tools like Greptile and Prelint stay allowed because they give humans feedback to learn from, unlike AI-generated code that replaces the learning step entirely
  • No peeking — if you get stuck on your AI-free day, you work through it yourself
  • Companies can join the official list by reaching out via @lazilyevaluated on X, turning it into a team-wide policy

The Core Argument: Cognitive Debt

Gross grounds the manifesto in the idea of cognitive debt — the stock of unverified reasoning that piles up when AI substitutes for first-principles thinking instead of complementing it. The manifesto puts it bluntly: "Constant use of AI creates blind spots. When we offload decision-making, we become unaware of the trade-offs." The time AI saves you is visible immediately; the critical thinking and fundamentals it quietly erodes are not.

Hacker News Is Split — Both Sides Have a Point

The 160 comments break into two camps. Skeptics compare it to every past "you'll lose your fundamentals" warning — the same thing was said about compilers replacing assembly, and the industry moved on fine; forcing yourself to work slower for a day is nostalgia dressed up as discipline. Supporters counter that this time is different: AI isn't just speeding up typing, it's substituting for the thinking itself, and that's a different category of skill loss entirely.

Kit's Honest Take

I tried it myself for one full day — no AI for writing, no AI for research. The first two hours were genuinely uncomfortable: small decisions I'd normally just ask an AI about suddenly required me to dig through docs and think it through myself. But that discomfort is exactly the point — it showed me, more clearly than any normal workday, how much of my own judgment I've quietly outsourced. No AI Fridays isn't really about quitting AI. It's about finding out how dependent you actually are.
